In particular Sykes (of the Sykes - Picot treaty carving up the post WW1 Ottoman Empire between Britain and France) saw both the geopolitical strategic significance of protecting the Suez Canal and the beneficial role the US Zionists could play in getting the US to enter the war on the British side. Weizmann himself had played a crucial role in the munitions industry in the UK. There had been a shortage of acetone derived from maize needed for artillery due to the German U boat blockade. Lloyd George was munitions minister and he was put in touch with Weizmann who knew how to repurpose horse chestnuts as a substitute and setup a factory to achieve this. Weizmann was made a technical advisor to the government and claimed that the only recompense he required was a declaration of intent by the British to the implementation of the Jewish state.
There was also a very strong anti Zionist movement. In fact the Balfour declaration was written to Lord Rothschild as deputy of the board of Jewish governors because the head had resigned over the issue. A letter of protest with numerous signatories from the Jewish elite was published in the Times the day after. Indeed Rothschild himself supported it from an imperial perspective only as a close associate of Lord Milner. There is a great deal of evidence that many of the Jewish aristocracy viewed the influx of poor Jews into London as an embarrassment. Rothschild himself paid for many to move onto other countries. The anti Zionist Jews knew that establishing a Jewish state would result in the obvious calls for all Jews to leave which a certain German leader would soon exploit.

i did and the vatican is one of the three city states. some of the "black nobility" remained in rome after its collapse so possibly different factions fighting. still the vatican has always been mostly corrupt but not entirely.
Hi Peter, a bit off-topic here. I was listening to your interview on G&E just now, and you were talking about nukes and whether they exist or not. I have come up with a unique explanation for this. It seems that they do exist, but you cannot drop them anytime you want, it seems. There have to be some factors in order to get it right, and if this is true, then nukes are a hassle to work with.
